WHEELCHAIR

Fall 2012

Mild steel, loss of a loved one, cast bronze.

For Michael.

Forward, towards recovery, a Stillness in acceptance, or backward towards death. This piece embodies the struggle of watching a love one battle a terminal illness. The chairs rear axle is fixed severely narrowing the mobility and setting whoever is seated on a determinate path.

Limiting the movement physically represents moving forward towards hope, or backwards into grief. Two IV bags for each lung lost.

A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST…

The only thing that I have ever fully understood is my drive to create. I cannot remember a time when that was not the driving force in my life. And to this day and all the days that may come, I will continue on my journey as an artist. Exploring and creating my own existence in this world we share together will be something I do until I join the stars as matter and energy.
